Checking a Customer's Balance

See if a customer is in credit or debt with your business

To find out whether a customer has overpaid, underpaid, or if they owe money, you'll need to check their balance. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Click < to the right of Customers.
  2. In the expanded menu click View All.
  3. Search for and select the customer in question.
  4. Navigate to the Billing tab.

Under the Balance box:

  • A positive balance means the customer has overpaid and is in credit.
  • A negative balance indicates they owe you money (they haven't paid the latest invoice).

You can also view all invoice and payment records on this page. For instance, if a customer has a debt of £110 and pays £200, their balance will reflect a positive £90.

If you want to send an account statement to your customer, showing the opening and closing balance, refer to our guide for more details ➡️ Exporting Account Statement

Balance Reports

To generate a report with customer balances or remaining credit:

  1. Click < to the right of Reports.
  2. In the expanded menu click Customers.
  3. Choose between 'Active Customer' or 'Customer Overview', both of which include a 'Balance' column.
  4. Export the report as a CSV or PDF file.

With these tools, you’ll have a clear picture of your customers' account status at any time.
